About Hornig Law

I am a parent, like you, who discovered the world of special education when two of my three children were diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Even though I had been a lawyer for 10 years at that point, I was stunned, confused and out of my depth.  I trusted that the school district personnel had my children’s best interests at heart, but I learned quickly that I still had to fight for a comprehensive evaluation and appropriate services.

My transition to becoming a special education attorney started then.  As I learned to advocate for my own children, I learned from parents in front of me on the long winding road, and I mentored parents coming up behind.  My goal as an attorney is to build relationships with my clients, to be there when they have questions, when they need guidance or when they don’t know what to do next.

In 2012, I started using my legal skills to support other special education attorneys, and I worked as an independent contractor, behind the scenes for the next 6 years.  In 2017, I joined the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA), took their attorney training in 2018 and attended my first conference in 2019.  I formed my firm in early 2020 to serve families like yours.

I am pleased to announce that Connecticut Clients can now reach me through Forte Law Group, to better serve all of your special education needs.

As for my background, I graduated from Lehigh University with a BA in English and a Minor in Law in 1989.  I received my JD from Pace University School of Law in 1992 and I am currently admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York.   I have spent the past 16 years advocating for my own children and now I would like to help yours.
